If you are building a house someplace that can't hook up to the sewer system, you are going to need to have a septic tank installed. Installing a septic tank isn't as easy as just picking out a spot and putting it there. There are some things that the company you hired to do your installation is going to have to do before they can put your septic tank into place.

Soil Percolation Test

One of the things that you are going to have to do is a soil percolation test. That's because the water from the tank has to percolate out from the tank into the surrounding soil. If the soil is packed too tightly or it doesn't drain well, for whatever reason, that may not be the best place for your septic tank to go. You may be able to amend the soil to make it possible for the soil to percolate better.

Site Survey

The site survey is the way to determine the best spot for your tank to go. That survey will look at a lot of things, including the topography of the property. That means that they will be looking at the lay of the land, where gravity can help with drainage, and where the house and driveway are going to be placed. It's important to make sure that nothing heavy is placed over the septic tank because it could cause the tank to collapse, which would lead to expensive repairs. The site survey is also going to make sure that the septic tank's drainage field will not disturb any wells because no one wants anything that is directly coming out from the septic tank to end up in their well immediately.

Licensing and Approval

The septic tank installation company and you are going to have to apply for a license before you can get the tank installed. The license application is going to put all the information that was found in the soil test and the site survey on it. Then the people in charge of that department will look at everything and may come out and look at the site before they can make a decision as to whether or not they will approve the site. Once it is approved, the tank can be installed.
